For even more information visit: www.crtai.com/levulan.asp
This new photodynamic therapy is used with great success for treating acne, pre-cancerous spots called actinic keratoses, fine lines, sun damage and rosacea. It can also help reduce pores and decrease the size of oil glands and as a result, has proven to be an excellent treatment for acne vulgaris and acne rosacea. It can even improve the appearance of some acne scars. For many, the results are extremely dramatic.
How it works
Levulan, a photosensitizing agent consisting of Aminolevulinic Acid (AVA), a naturally occurring substance in the body, is applied to the area of the skin to be treated. When the Levulan is 'activated' with a particular wavelength of light it is essentially 'turned on' and targeted toward active sebaceous cells that lead to acne.
What to Expect
After the skin is thoroughly cleansed, the Levulan, a clear and painless solution, is applied to the skin and left for approximately 30 - 60 minutes. It is then activated with the light, which takes another eight to twelve minutes. The treated area will appear red and peeling and crusted areas of skin will be common for several days. Clients are advised to remain indoors the day after the treatment to avoid exposure to the sun. Normal activities can resume in two to three days.
Clients will usually require a series of three treatments, two to four weeks apart. Treatment for actinic keratoses may only require one treatment.
