Varicose & Spider Vein Treament

Varicose and spider veins treatments are available at South Central Laser and Vein Clinic.

Varicose and spider veins are caused by a number of factors such as an increase of pressure in the lower extremities of the body, hormonal variations, genetics, obesity, pregnancy, and inactive lifestyles.

Spider Veins are also called telangiectasias. They are small vessels measuring 0.1 to 1 mm. in diameter and represent an expanded venule, arteriole, or capillary. They may be associated with burning or throbbing pain, though symptoms are not always present.

Sclerotherapy and Laser Treatment are usually very effective in treating these small veins. Laser Treatment is the most common approach to the removal of facial spider veins.

After a thorough evaluation, the affected veins are identified and a treatment plan is made. Treatments are performed in the office, and usually take 20 minutes. During the procedure, different strengths of solution are injected directly into the vein, according to the size of the vessel. One area is done at a time, to allow the venous circulation to adapt gradually to its new circulatory path.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a proven safe, effective, and virtually painless way of treating varicose and spider veins. It has been used, successfully, to treat both types of veins for over 75 years. In the past few years, newer sclerosing agents have been developed, resulting in improved results for the patient. These new agents minimize the local discomfort of the injection and provide an excellent result.

When a sclerosing agent is injected into a vein, it causes the vein to constrict and eventually die over a period of 4-6 weeks. The agent is designed to cling to the inside of the vein, close to the injection site. For this reason, sclerotherapy is very effective in the treatment of specific veins.

Echosclerotherapy

With the use of an ultrasound, we are now able to diagnose deseased veins in areas where they are too deep to be visible. Thus, we are able to treat veins that were previously only treatable by surgical intervention. With the advantage of no down time, no anesthesia, and excellent results, we have found ultrasound guided sclerotherapy to be a major advance in the treatment of varicose vein disease.

Post Treatment Procedures

Following the treatment, a compression bandage or stocking is applied. It is worn for a specified period of time, depending on the size of the vessel. Walking is an important part of the treatment plan, and the patient is instructed to walk immediately following the treatment for 30 minutes. Walking daily for at least 30 minutes is necessary for six weeks following the treatment.

Compression hose should be worn during activities that involve prolonged sitting or standing. This includes stationary jobs and long airplane or driving trips. Compression hosiery is now sheer, and comes in a variety of colors. They are generally comfortable for most women. They can be purchased at our clinic.

Follow-up appointments are made for the next 4-6 weeks after the treatment. It takes only 4-6 weeks for the body to completely reabsorb the vein, causing it to disappear.

Cost Issues

Your medical plan or MSP will pay for the treatment of a venous disease, if it is symptomatic and there is physical evidence of dysfunction upon examination. The procedure is covered by most insurance plans, however the medication and compression stockings are not. They are supplied by South Central Laser and Vein Clinic for a nominal fee. If you have an extended medical plan, it may cover the cost of these items.

If you are pregnant or have a venous and lymphatic disorder, wearing SIGVARIS compression hosiery during can substantially help prevent the development of varicose veins. CLICK HERE for more information...

"I now can show my legs and be more active!"

"After two pregnancies, I was left with very uncomfortable and unsightly varicose and spider veins. I was very self conscious about them, and for a long time would not be caught dead in anything that bared my legs. They were also constantly aching and sore, particularly if I was on my feet for any extended length of time. When I finally started looking into treatments, I was referred to South Central Laser. The treatments I have received have been minimally invasive, but very effective! I am now able to feel comfortable showing my legs, and I can be much more active without the pain. I have also had a microdermabrasion at the clinic, and it was amazing. My skin felt and looked radiant afterwards, and I plan on having one again soon! Throughout the course of my treatment, the doctor and other staff that I have dealt with have been wonderful! They are all very friendly, instantly make you feel comfortable, and I would even venture to say that I look forward to my appointments, despite that they involve needles!"
